SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

I LOVE IT – FROM COLLEGE FIX:   A Native American group this week filed a lawsuit alleging that a law barring public schools in Colorado from using Native American mascots and imagery is unconstitutional.  Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, who is listed as a defendant in the lawsuit, in June signed Senate Bill 21-116 into law, which prohibits public schools from using “a name, symbol, or image that depicts or refers to an American Indian tribe, individual, custom, or tradition that is used as a mascot, nickname, logo, letter, or team name.”  Schools with American Indian-themed mascots have until June 1, 2022 to cease use or face $25,000 fines each month for noncompliance, according to the law, which doesn’t apply if a school has an existing agreement with a federally recognized tribe.  The lawsuit, which was filed this week in U.S. District Court by the Mountain States Legal Foundation, a conservative public-interest law firm, is brought by current and former Yuma High School students and the Native American Guardian’s Association (NAGA), a nonprofit that advocates for the recognition of Native American heritage.   Read the story.  It's really about thinking Native Americans not allowing themselves to be pushed around by the trendies of the WOKE crowd.

THE STATE OF OUR JOURNALISM – OVERNIGHT:  CNN can't even give us an honest accounting of the terrorist car attack in Wisconsin.  The leftist party line is always maintained.  From Fox:

CNN was the center of intense backlash on Sunday over a tweet suggesting that the SUV involved in the Waukesha parade attack was responsible for the massacre that resulted in six deaths.

Darrell Brooks was charged with intentional homicide after driving his red SUV through a crowded street commemorating the holiday season, claiming six lives of those ages 8 to 81 and injuring dozens more.

On Sunday however, CNN appeared to place the responsibility on Brooks' vehicle, making no mention of the career criminal behind the wheel.

"Waukesha will hold a moment of silence today, marking one week since a car drove through a city Christmas parade, killing six people and injuring scores of others," the tweet reads.

Critics tore into the liberal outlet on social media for an apparent attempt to deflect blame from the suspect.

"Well, how about that? Autonomous cars seem to be running amok," legal scholar and McCormick professor Robert P. George wrote. "Evidently, one got it into its head to kill and maim a bunch of humans, so it 'drove through a Christmas parade, killing six people and injuring scores of others.' We should punish that car to teach others a lesson."

"A ‘car’ did this? Not a human being with intent to kill and maim and being held on $5 million bail?" California congressional candidate Buzz Patterson agreed. "You guys are a joke."

"Hey, @CNNKeith, what is up with this headline and tweet of your article?" Newsbusters deputy managing editor Nicholas Fondacaro asked. "You guys know the movie Cars isn't real right? Cars are not living things," he wrote in a separate tweet.

"Someone (Joe Rogan?) is radicalizing cars," former New York Times reporter Nellie Bowles tweeted.

"A car drove through a city Christmas parade," radio host Jason Rantz emphasized.

"Give me a break CNN," Sen. Ted Cruz's communication adviser Steve Guest wrote. "A car drove through a city Christmas parade. The headline was written like this for a reason."

COMMENT:  Cowardly journalism.  The alleged perpetrator is an African American with a long rap sheet.  He has hurt his own community many times.  But to white, woke journalists, he is probably seen as a confused but sympathetic figure who has done wrong because wrong was done to him.  There are people who think that way, and they're giving you the news.

SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT:

COWARDS – FROM FOX:   A woman who lived through kidnapping and sexual slavery at the hands of ISIS had an event cancelled by a Canadian school board due to fears of "Islamophobia."  Twenty-eight-year-old Nadia Murad was scheduled to visit with students from 600 different schools to speak about her upcoming book, "The Last Girl: My Story Of Captivity," which documents the horrific treatment she suffered from ISIS but was told by the Toronto School District that her event could not be held because it could "foster Islamophobia", according to the Telegraph.  The decision to cancel the event was made by Toronto School Board Superintendent Helen Fisher, who argued that the book could be viewed as offensive to Muslims. The Toronto District School Board is Canada's largest, and the fourth largest in North America.  Murad’s book tells how she escaped the Islamic State after being taken from her home and sold into sexual slavery where she was raped and tortured at the age of 14.  At least one district parent, who identified herself as Tanya Lee, has criticized the school district for the move.  "This is what the Islamic State means. It is a terrorist organization. It has nothing to do with ordinary Muslims. The Toronto school board should be aware of the difference," Lee said.  Murad won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2018 and founded Nadia's Initiative, through which she is a leading advocate for survivors of sexual exploitation and genocide.   We have yet to hear from so-called "women's" organizations, who should be appalled by this story.

THE DEEP BENCH OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY – CHOKE – OVERNIGHT:  A new poll suggests that the party is near bankruptcy in its search for presidential candidates.  From The Hill:

Vice President Kamala Harris and former First Lady Michelle Obama are in the lead for a 2024 presidential run if President Biden decides not to try for a second term, a new Hill-HarrisX poll found.

The poll found Harris in the lead among likely candidates, with 13 percent of respondents supporting her. Michelle Obama came in second at 10 percent.

All other candidates listed received 5 percent or less support, with most voters surveyed still unsure of who they would back if Biden chose not run.

Other candidates in the poll included 2020 presidential hopefuls Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Michael Bloomberg, Andrew Yang and Pete Buttigieg.

Thirty-six percent said they were “unsure” who they would vote for, while 13 percent said they would choose someone who was not on the list.

Biden has said before that he intends to run in 2024. If he won, he would be 81 years old at the start of his second term.

Among poll respondents who voted for Biden in 2020, 22 percent said they would vote for Harris, the most of out of any candidate in the poll.

Harris has struggled with her approval ratings since the start of her tenure as vice president. She has been tasked under Biden with handling the southern border and voting rights.

The poll surveyed 939 registered voters from Nov. 18 to Nov. 19. The margin or error is plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.

COMMENT:  Are you not impressed?  Why, don't we all feel a yearning for Kamala Harris and Michelle Obama?  And...what if they were on the same ticket?  The excitement would be overwhelming, America's confidence would be restored.  (Yes, I'm making this up.)

I mean, come on, guys.  Is that the best you can do?  Wherever they are, Roosevelt, Truman and Kennedy must be looking down in embarrassment.  I'd love to meet some of the people who participated in this poll.  In what century are they living?  Maybe they're not living.

But whoever the Dems choose, be sure of an enthusiastic response from The New York Times and MSNBC.

"The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been."
